Amitabh Bachchan To Receive This Year's Dadasaheb Phalke Award

New Delhi, India: Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who has starred in a multitude of films, will receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award - India's highest film honour this year. This was confirmed by the information and bradcasting Minister Prkash Javedekar in a twitter post.

Mr.Javadekar tweeted on Tuesday evening. "The legend Amitabh Bachchan, who entertained and inspired for two generations, has been selected unanimously for Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest congratulations to him," Mr Javadekar wrote in his tweet. Actor-politician Rajinikanth congratulated Mr Bachchan within an hour with a tweet: "Congratulations dear Amitabh Bachchan ji. You richly deserve this commendable honour."


The 76-year-old screen icon, who rose to stardom with his 'Angry Young Man' persona capturing the anger of the young generation in the 1970s with films such as "Zanjeer", "Deewar" and "Sholay", continues to be a force to reckon with in Indian cinema.


In a career spanning five decades, Mr.Bachchan has given memorable performances film after film and is a four-time National Film Award winner.
