Circle of Leadership 2025-2026: Celebrating Growth, Collaboration, and the Induction of New AZINA Leaders

Phoenix : The Arizona Indian Nurses Association (AZINA) hosted the Circle of Leadership 2025-2026 event on January 18, 2025, making a momentous occasion to induct the third Governing Board (GB3) leaders. The event celebrated leadership, community, and the remarkable achievements of AZINA under the guidance of outgoing President Elizabeth Sam.
AZINA, a non-profit professional organization, serves as a vital resource for nurses and nursing students of Indian origin in Arizona. Over the past two years, AZINA has demonstrated exceptional growth, resilience, and community impact, thanks to the visionary leadership of Elizabeth Sam.
The event featured distinguished guests, including keynote speaker Dr. Suja Thomas, the current President of the National Association of Indian Nurses of America (NAINA) and guest of honor Rudy Apodaca, Vice President of Operations at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. Felicitations were delivered by Fr. Saji Markose, Dr. Padma Aking, and Pastor Jimmy Thomas. The presence of community leaders, nursing organization representatives, AZINA members, and their families added to the significance and success of the occasion.
The program was expertly emceed by AZINA leaders Dr. Shaju Francis and Ms. Jessy Abraham and showcased a vibrant array of cultural performances, including the national anthems, a Margam Kali, a skit, a youth dance performance, and a beautiful song by upcoming term President Lakshmi Nair.
The induction ceremony commenced with the national anthem, performed by Sincy Thomas and Merlin Henry, followed by a welcome address by Elizabeth Sunil Sam. The lamp-lighting ceremony was then conducted by esteemed guests as part of the inaugural function. Dr. Suja Thomas delivered an inspiring keynote speech, encouraging nurses to elevate their aspirations and reach for new horizons.
A captivating Margam Kali group dance, organized by Sincy Thomas and Mary Biju, was a highlight of the event. Dr. Suja Thomas honored the founding leaders of AZINA, and Rudy Apodaca, Vice President of Operations at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, delivered a thought-provoking speech. The formal induction of the GB3 leaders was conducted by Jessy Abraham, Election Chair for 2023-2024.
The program also included a reflective comedy skit, Lost in Translation, humorously depicting the initial experiences of Indian nurses in America, enacted by AZINA leaders Ajitha Nair, Arya Bindu, Elizabeth Sunil Sam, Mary Biju, Seema Nair, Sobha Krishnakumar, and Suma Jacob. Dr. Padma Aking distributed the Arizona Mental Health Initiatives (AMHI) Youth Leadership Awards, and sponsors were recognized for their support. Incoming President Lakshmi Nair addressed the gathering with inspiring words, setting the tone for her upcoming term.
A lunch presentation by Dr. Rastogi (Johnson & Johnson) on The Critical Role of Delaying Schizophrenia Relapse added depth and relevance to the event. AMHI volunteers and new graduates were recognized by Pastor Jimmy Thomas. The program concluded at 2 PM with a vote of thanks by Seema Nair (AZINA Secretary 2023-2024), followed by a vibrant and dynamic dance performance by the talented trio Nathan Sam George (choreographer), Austin John, and Esha Annette Sam, who captivated audience with their energy and precision.
The event was marked by exceptional teamwork, enthusiasm, and a spirit of collaboration. Attendees enjoyed a delicious meal sponsored by Johnson & Johnson and prepared by the staff of Indian Delhi Palace. The day concluded with a photo session, providing an opportunity for members to connect, share ideas, and offer suggestions for the future under the leadership of newly elected President Lakshmi Nair.
